ALEX'S DETERMINATION IN THE CCMEP TANF PROGRAM
When Alex first connected with Goodwill, he was a student attending the Wayne County Schools Career Center. He joined the CCMEP TANF program looking for a structured path forward. Because he was young, Alex faced several initial barriers to employment. He lacked a driver's license, had no prior work experience, and was entirely unsure of what career path he wanted to pursue in the future.
BUILDING SKILLS THROUGH REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE
Alex needed hands-on opportunities to build his resume. Through Goodwill's Summer Youth Program, he worked in Industrial Services, where he was able to learn new skills and gain vital, real-life work experience. Programs like this are made possible when our community chooses to shop thrift. Every time you buy thrift items at our retail locations, you help fund the essential job training that participants like Alex rely on to succeed.
FINDING DIRECTION AND DRIVING FORWARD
Working closely with his Goodwill Case Manager, Alex received the personalized support he needed to overcome his obstacles. With Goodwill's assistance, Alex successfully obtained his driver's license, unlocking a vital piece of his independence. Through ongoing mentorship, he also found clarity regarding his professional future. After exploring his options, Alex made the proud decision to pursue a career in the Marines.
A FUTURE DRIVEN BY PURPOSE AND SERVICE
After waiting until he was the appropriate age and completing all the necessary steps, Alex is excited to have officially enlisted in the Marines following his graduation. He looks forward to serving his country proudly. In the Marines, Alex will work hard, learn even more advanced skills, and apply everything he has learned to fuel his ongoing success. His journey perfectly illustrates the incredible impact that a simple household or clothing donation can make in transforming a local youth's life.
