Is GOODWILL® a for-profit company?

GOODWILL INDUSTRIES® of Wayne and Holmes Counties is a nonprofit organization. We operate with a mission-driven focus that centers on providing job training, employment services, and support programs to individuals facing barriers to employment. Every donation and purchase made at GOODWILL® directly funds our initiatives to empower individuals and strengthen the community.

What percentage of donations go towards our programs?

We were proud to allocate approximately 91 cents of every dollar earned through donated goods toward funding our programs and services in 2023. Your donations play a crucial role in supporting our mission to help individuals achieve economic independence and self-sufficiency through job training and placement services.

How is the CEO’s salary determined?

While many believe the GOODWILL® CEO makes many hundreds of thousands a year, this is not the case. The compensation for our CEO is determined by a comprehensive process that involves benchmarking against industry standards, evaluating organizational performance, and considering the responsibilities and impact of the role. Our goal is to maintain competitive compensation to attract top talent while ensuring that donations are maximized for the benefit of our programs and the community.

Where do the profits from GOODWILL® retail stores go?

The profits generated from GOODWILL® retail stores are reinvested into our programs and initiatives that support job training, employment placement services, and community outreach. By shopping at our stores and making purchases, you are directly contributing to our mission of empowering individuals to build better futures for themselves and their families.

Do all GOODWILL® staff members come from the Wayne and Holmes areas?

From our CEO to our dedicated cashiers, every individual employed at GOODWILL INDUSTRIES® of Wayne and Holmes Counties is a local resident of the Wayne and Holmes areas. We take pride in building a team that understands and embodies the values of our community, ensuring that our impact remains deeply rooted in the regions we serve.

How are the individuals supported by GOODWILL® selected?

Individuals who receive support from GOODWILL® are often referred through community organizations, social services agencies, or our own outreach initiatives. Our goal is to provide tailored support to help them achieve success in the workforce.
